The Essence of Care vs Winter Blues

Focusing on self care and wellness is always important, but now that it’s November and we’re at the final stretch of the year, finding ways to give yourself extra care is even more essential. Studies show that mental health tends to decline during the winter months due to the weather getting colder, days getting darker earlier and the holidays.

Our bodies operate on a circadian rhythm, which is our body’s 24 hour cycle that regulates the essential functions that contribute to our physical health, mental health and behavior. Looking at how reliant our body cycle is on time, when the winter season rolls around and the time changes, it throws off your body’s equilibrium and forces us to adapt to a new cycle. This adjustment is oftentimes difficult because of how we continue going about our day to day schedules as if nothing with the time and season has changed. It can be a traumatic adjustment having to be as productive while adjusting to the sky getting brighter earlier in the morning, days getting darker much earlier and the weather being significantly colder.

It’s important to show yourself and your body extra kindness this season to adjust to how the whole world around you is changing. Some ways that you can show yourself kindness is by using one of our products to promote self care and relaxation (shameless plug 🙂), getting more exercise or finding ways to stay connected to your support system. Some other things that can be a positive addition to your day to day routine is making sure you’re taking proper vitamins to give your body nutrients, eating a well balanced diet and dedicating time to your mental health (journaling, talk therapy, meditation and prayer).

It is OK to recognize that you may not be feeling your best self and it is even more OK to ask for help if you feel that you need extra support.
